During my down time for the past couple of days, I have been doing some digital inking in Manga Studio 5. I really like this program specifically for inking, (I haven’t yet completed any color work inside this program) It’s really smooth and the pressure sensitivity in conjunction with my Cintiq is pretty impressive. It feels natural, but allows me multiple undos for the multiple mistakes I regularly make. That is a requirement. Anyway, for this exercise I worked up a previous sketch I had done of the Thing and worked up a new Hulk. Once I finished the Hulk I had to add some color to him, I did that in Adobe Photoshop.
This weeks Client spotlight is AMC theatres. Specifically the AMC KidsPack. I am a huge AMC Theatres fan, they are by far my favorite movie theatre franchise out there. So, when asked to help pioneer a new and exciting product geared towards younger moviegoers, I jumped at the chance. AMC provided me with the packaging template and asked to me create artwork based loosely on the “Where’s Waldo?” concept. I also was charged with creating several collateral pieces to be used to help promote this great new product. My goal was to create an interesting little world filled with characters of all sorts who love going to the movies just as much as I do.
I did this commission up for a great guy by the name of Robert Schumacher. He’s having a great big bash to celebrate his birthday and he was looking for something unique. Robert had a very detailed description for what he was looking to have on the card. I added my creative touch to his very creative description and this is the result. A fun piece for me to create and a fun invitation to a birthday bash that sounds like it will be a blast.
Happy “Early” Birthday, Robert!
