If you have been following you probably have noticed that within the last year I have been trying vary my style a bit. I really want to work up a pretty solid black and white style. Something that varies and feeds my need to stretch artistically. It’s been a chore because I have gotten so far out of my comfort zone, that being the tight illustrator super clean lines that I am used to. I want to stay a bit looser with the lines in the black and white. I really like the look, but my cartooning nature fights it tooth and nail. Here is another attempt at this style. Eventually I would like to work up a full comic story with this style.

Thought I’d try another Batman image in the grittier-looser inking style that I’ve been playing with recently. Plus, I thought I’d mix up the design a bit, less spandex and movie armor and more military-esque.
Some Manga Studio digital inks followed by some color. I love how I don’t have to worry about knocking over the ink bottle all over my desk and the drawing or how I don’t get carried away and push to hard on the pen tip and breaking the damn thing.
I sketched up this guy a couple weeks back and finally got around to inking him up this weekend. I’ve been going for a gritty black and white feel for these inks as of late. I like how I can just lay in lines and not worry so much about how clean they will look in the end. Working this way is a huge departure from the well contained, tight images I have been working up in the last few years. I’m really enjoying myself, it’s good to change it up some.
